Miami Marathon 2013: Things to Remember

As the year begins and it quickly becomes time for the Miami marathon, 2013 is already proving to be quite an exciting adventure. Last year, runners from more than 40 different states and 12 countries were represented in the A1A Marathon, and even more are expected to run in the race this year. With all the excitement that surrounds the A1A Marathon, it is very important to remember that it is a sporting event, and unexpected setbacks can arise when you put your body through the rigors of running 26.2 miles.

Remember these things:

- The weather is very warm in Fort Lauderdale. Get ready for the climate by making sure that at least one of your runs every week simulates the conditions you will face at the race.

- Hydration is extremely important in warmer climates, so consider using a hydration belt or other hydration system to deliver water between aid stations while you are running.

- It takes a long time to get to the point where you can handle running more than 26 miles. There is no reason for you to push yourself to injury just to get your finishing time down. Increase mileage gradually.

- Have fun! Sports aren’t all about winning.
