Run Green

The Fort Lauderdale A1A Marathon is working on several initiatives leading into this year’s running festivities, it is our goal to be the leading marathon in Florida for championing the go green philosophy, Reduce, Reuse, Recycle. Below are some of the initiatives we are working on this year to improve our carbon footprint. Please check back with us on a regular basis for updates and changes in our green initiatives and for fun ways that you can get involved in spreading the green word!

What we are doing…

Southern Waste will be partnering with the Fort Lauderdale A1A Marathon to help Recycle all cardboard, paper cups and plastic bottles on the course and at the expo. Southern Waste will sort post race rubbish for recycling, composte or waste.

Jetblue will be paying for the carbon offsetting of flights booked from a1amarathon.com

Race vehicles will be discouraged from idling while working race day.

Preferred parking for carpoolers

Partner with www.pickuppal.com to promote ridesharing to the event.

Event information is sent out via email rather than Post

Participants are encouraged to register online rather than by paper registration.

jetBlue Carbon Offsetting with CarbonFund.org

A carbon footprint is the measure of the greenhouse gas emissions produced from your daily activities, including the energy used to heat your home, make your clothes and food, and fuel your car and air travel. The average American is responsible for more than 50,000 pounds of carbon dioxide emissions each year. That's about 140 pounds a day!

Carbon offsetting represents a monetary reduction in greenhouse gas. For example, in order to offset the carbon emissions used during a trip, you can donate money to programs that reduce carbon emissions such as alternative energy or reforestation programs.

In an effort to support the Fort Lauderdale A1A Marathon going green, jetBlue will be offsetting your travel to the Fort Lauderdale A1A Marathon when you jet with jetBlue! FYI - One carbon offset represents the reduction of one metric ton of carbon dioxide, or its equivalent in other greenhouse gases.
