Get Up, Get Involved and Do Something. Charities of the A1A Marathon Let's Make It Better Together! Charity really does begin at home. Why not make it a family affair? Involve your children and grandchildren in learning about the world's needs and the charities that serve them. The children will never forget what they've learned, and you'll start them down the path to a lifetime of giving. A lifetime of sharing. And a lifetime of feeling good about it.

The Fort Lauderdale A1A Marathon is working on several initiatives leading into this year's running festivities, it is our goal to be the leading marathon in Florida for championing the go green philosophy, Reduce, Reuse, Recycle. Below are some of the initiatives we are working on this year to improve our carbon footprint. Please check back with us on a regular basis for updates and changes in our green initiatives and for fun ways that you can get involved in spreading the green word!

Southern Waste will be partnering with the Fort Lauderdale A1A Marathon to help Recycle all cardboard, paper cups and plastic bottles on the course and at the expo. Southern Waste will sort post race rubbish for recycling, composte or waste.

  • Jetblue will be paying for the carbon offsetting of flights booked from a1amarathon.com
  • Race vehicles will be discouraged from idling while working race day.
  • Preferred parking for car poolers
  • Event information is sent out via email rather than Post Participants are encouraged to register online rather than by paper registration.

We will be collecting your gently worn training shoe at the Publix Health and Fitness Expo along with Soles for Souls. Please save your old shoes and bring them to one of the many donation boxes that will be located around Expo being held at the Galleria Mall! For More information visit Sole for Souls

Sunny Shores Sea Camp or ssscamp.org. Camp began 30 years ago as a dream of one man with Cystic Fibrosis; it included laughter of children; it resulted in countless hours of love. Helping families and mentoring children with Cystic Fibrosis. The Sole Sistas' & Bro's are a group of runners some of which have CF running in the A1A Half Marathon on February 19, 2012. We will be raising money in our efforts to benefit the all volunteer camp held in Disney Vero Beach every summer. This much needed camp helps shape the future of children and young adults and their families with this disease in which there is no cure.
